The Pictures:

Film and digital cameras were both used for still images. An old Ricoh KR-10 super with a 28-200mm zoom lens, or a 50mm wide aperture lens were used for film. Ektachrome 64 and Velvia 200 slide film gave the best picture results. A Sony 3.2MB digicam and a Canon Ixus 4.0MB digicam were used for the digital pictures. Very regular cleaning of the cameras and lenses is necessary in the desert. Sand gets everywhere and it is especially important to have the camera as clean as possible when changing the film, to prevent dust getting inside. Try to only change films inside a tent. A Silva Solar charger mounted on the inside window of our 4x4 was used to charge all the batteries. A 12V inverter provided 240V ac for additional charging capacity. The best images were taken at Sunrise and Sunset, when the light / dark contrast and the colours were at their best.
